The first ever fast ferry crossing from Larne to Troon will take place on Tuesday 15th April 2003 when P&O Irish Sea’s fast-craft, Superstar Express sets sail.
The ferry company, which already boasts the fastest service between Ireland and Britain with it’s highly-popular one-hour Larne-Cairnryan route will operate 2 round trips each day to Troon with a crossing time of under 2 hours. Both services will be operated by Superstar Express, which joined the P&O Irish Sea fleet in March 2000.
Graham McCullough, General Manager, P&O Irish Sea, Scottish Routes, points out: “Our new Larne-Troon route is a complementary service to our very popular one-hour crossing from Larne to Cairnryan. Superstar Express has an undisputed reputation for reliability and with a crossing time of less than two hours and superb on-board facilities, we are confident that our Larne-Troon service will prove a winner with both existing and new customers.”
The introduction of a service between Larne and Troon is the continuation of an investment programme by P&O Irish Sea into it’s Scottish services. The Cairnryan-Larne route has benefited from investment of over £80m in the past two years with the arrival of two brand new ships, European Causeway and European Highlander and the construction of new terminal facilities at Cairnryan. …more

Graham McCullough adds: “Our research shows that customers are demanding shorter and faster crossings to Ireland with more flexibility and choice of vessel, sailing times and routes. The new route to Troon, with our existing four routes between Britain and Ireland and an investment of over £80m in ships and port facilities in recent years, guarantee that P&O Irish Sea is in the best position to meet and exceed these demands.”
